7 months agoBeen to Sunway Putra for many times but did not realised that this is a gem for supper as it opens till 2.30am! Bak Kut Teh was good and the meat was tender. But best of all, it’s the ginger wine liver/kidney soup! The vegetables was also nice!After dinner, we asked for takeaway and the stall was very nice to provide additional container so that it is easier to consume the soup in the hotel. Will be back the next time when in the area!
10 months agoThis old school restaurant definitely will bring you back to 70/80’s. They are playing classic chinese music while you’re having your meal… The food taste also makes you feel like a really homemade food.As i knew, morning and night shift is different PIC. I just visited the morning shift, will give it a try for the night BKT.

a month agoDrove my Taiwanese friends there for a late supper upon their arrival. Since this shop opens late in the wee hours, I had chosen this shop, moreover it’s on the way to their hotel. Reached the shop around 2am. Parked along the main road in front of the shop. There are seating options: along the walk way or inside the shop. There were a few tables of customers and I had ordered a portion of Claypot Mixed Bah Kut Teh for 3 persons with various parts since it’s almost finished and no other options to be choosy. The Bah Kut Teh portions are rather small for 3 persons. I also ordered side dishes, Yu Tiao and Steam Vegetables with Oyster Sauce. Service is great, fast and efficient. Most of the staff are Myanmarise with 3 locals. All the Myanmarise spoke good Cantonese as though they were locals. Food was served within minutes. Taste of the Bah Kut Teh seems to be less interesting, more like Pork Soups rather than the taste of Herbal ingredients. Anyhow, we had a great early morning Bah Kut Teh in the center of the city. 8 months agoPoor service by WORKER! Bah Kut Teh were too pricey. RM 56 for 3 person serving bah kut Tey, per person is RM18.6??? Somemore the owner charged us extra Rm1 for per cup of ice. The worker brought 3 cups of ice, but we told only need 1. Then when they charge us, they charged for 3 cups, after we told them to revise, they blame us we should tell them earlier. This restaurant does not even deserve one star, no basic qualification of customer service. Bah kut Teh has no vegetables or any items, just meat only, and it is RM18/person. Such a scamming business!

4 months agoVisited to celebrate my parents birthday with my family. Food was great. Taste was as you would expect from such a elegant and posh restaurant within a 5-star hotel. No complaints. Delicious. Atmosphere was very quiet and relaxing also no complaints. Service was good in the way that staffs were attentive and relatively friendly. However, as pointed out by numerous patrons through these reviews, I would like to also raise the same issue. Staffs cleared the table a bit too fast. It was borderline rude and unnecessary. Our spoon has only lifted off the plate after taking the last piece of vegetables/meat and a pair of hands would come swooping in to take away the dishes. A very big irk for my parents and myself alike to the point where we had to stop the staff from taking away the dishes too quickly. Let us enjoy our food and let us pick whatever is left of the dishes. These are good food so let’s not let any go to waste. Wait a while before clearing them up.This being my only negative comment, all was else good. Will still recommend and return in the near future!
a month agoSummary 3.5/5: average service, food value for the price and venue/brand.Service 2.5/5: No matter how good the food is, if the experience is bad, customers will only remember it over the food. It was the same for us. The lady waitress serving our table was good and courteous, because of her effort, their service is getting a pass. Details of my bad experience below.
1. When we were there, no staff at the door/reception at all to receive any guest. About 5-6 staff all surrounded to take order from 1 single table, we had to walk in/barge in just to get their attention, yet we had to wait for another 5 minutes before we were brought to our table ?. 2. We made arrangements for a birthday celebration, per confirmation ,they were supposed to serve the free dessert after our main course. But it seems they have totally forgotten about it ?. The night when we were here, their business was slow, not busy at all. No reason to overlooked.
Food 4/5: We didn’t order a lot, but the food were on point and value for money. I particularly love the fried rice with Black Truffles Scallop and Egg White, it was so flavourful that you can smell the truffles the very moment they put down the rice. The Szechuan hot and sour soup was appetizing and not too spicy, just that the portion was a bit too small. The beancurd with sauteed asparagus and mushrooms was ok but forgettable. The free dessert was really nice, very nicely done.
Atmosphere 4/5: 5 star restaurant at 5 star hotel, elegant but old fashioned decor… Like the relaxing environment and the view to the park.
a month agoMy son and I decided to try the Ruby set meal for two. The menu’s description sounded promising, and we were particularly intrigued by the soup.Unfortunately, the first dish was served at a less-than-ideal temperature. It would have been more enjoyable if it had been warmer. Towards the end of our meal, we were served bird’s nest soup, which was disappointingly too sweet. The excessive sweetness made it feel like an unhealthy choice.
Overall, the food quality was satisfactory, but not exceptional. It’s comparable to what many other restaurants offer, yet the pricing seems a bit steep for what you get.
The service was standard – not particularly noteworthy, but no major issues either.
In summary, the restaurant offers decent food, but its high prices don’t quite align with the overall dining experience.
a month agoAs good as LPH has every bit to offer, the fact remains is there’s a price hike off the menu(and a steep one at that!) 1) Our favourite Peking Duck which was able to be offered as half duck(just nice for 2 pax) previously, now you need to get a whopping whole bird for 2 pax…. 2) Breakfast: always love their dimsum – decent range of variety but definitely taste good! 3) MO’s range of double boiled soups were just as great – nutritious and herbal packed with wonderful goodness ❤️4 months agoMy visit to Lai Poh Heen, the Chinese restaurant at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, was a culinary journey that exceeded all expectations. I chose this establishment for a special occasion with my mother, knowing her strict halal dietary preferences and my desire to introduce her to the world of exquisite Cantonese cuisine.From the moment we stepped in, the reception and service were nothing short of amazing. The restaurant’s serene ambiance, coupled with a view overlooking the tranquil man-made lake by KLCC, set the stage for an unforgettable dining experience.
The dim sum selection, particularly the squid ink dumplings, left us in awe. The scallops and prawns inside were impeccably fresh and succulent, a true testament to the chef’s dedication to quality.
My mother savored the golden sands buns, which were both fluffy and indulgently filled with salted egg custard cream, a delightful combination of textures and flavors.
The hot and sour soup was elevated to new heights with the addition of plump, juicy scallops and prawns, making each spoonful a taste sensation.
However, the true pièce de résistance was the stir-fried black pepper beef. The beef cubes were lightly seared on the outside, yet incredibly tender and bursting with flavor on the inside. It was a culinary masterpiece.
In conclusion, Lai Poh Heen at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur not only met but exceeded our expectations. I look forward to returning with more family members to celebrate future special occasions. My heartfelt thanks to the entire Lai Poh Heen team for creating such a memorable dining experience.

The noodles is just okay, and the char siew is 8/10 just got some special taste that I didn’t eat before compared with other.
The back street is very stinky if u ever walk pass, but the phenomenon in the place is quite ok.
An old looking no frill place for you to come for the food. If located in a different area (eg the refurbished Petaling Street area), this place would be considered rustic. In any case, the noodles texture is very nice, char siew is just so so but the bit that takes the cherry are the wantans, nicely flavoured and packed with fillings. A small plate of char siew wantan noodles with drinks set me back MYR12.50.
An institution in the Pudu / Loke Yew area, Hung Kee has been dishing out their famous wantan mee for decades now. While parking is a chore, it’s possible to find a place along the street outside the shop at night. Forget about it during the day.
The famous dishes here are the wantan noodles (nice and springy), the char siew is also a delight. But the highlight for me was the sweet & sour pork, done in a long forgotten, old-fashioned style that is super crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
Most patrons would rather flock to the air-conditioned dining area adjoining the original store, and there’s even a semi-private dining room with two tables.
Prices are a little above average, but it’s not deterred the flock of never ending people coming here for the humble wantan noodles here. Must try.
