Sorry, I forgot the name of dishes but from the pics, I’m sure one can hazard a guess. I’m sure the servers/order-takers will recognise them too.a year agoAfter 630pm start crowded cause not much chinese restaurant in Rawang, food and price okok. Salted pumpkin is nice and the rest of the food taste normal only, order braised pork but they deboned it so the texture look weird. Food served quite fast, can ask lady boss to recommend special menu of the day6 months agoBetter portion than other restaurants. A La Carte or group dine in, take away is cheap, free soup, much thanks. Quick cooks.11 months agoHighly recommended is the salted egg fried pumpkin…. its so yummy we cleaned the whole plate. Steam fish is very fresh and tasty. We also ordered a Kung pow yam basket which was very good. It’s a very popular restaurant. Showing up early at 5.30pm it’s already almost full. If you are planning to try, go early.

4 months agoThink Global and Eat Local. This is a quaint eatery which will transport you back to early 1970s. Food has good flavours. The Eight Treasure duck is full of flavours. Seafood noodles has an interesting twist with the addition of century eggs. Service is unhurried but you can order their own made moon cake whilst waiting for the food to arrive. I will definitely go back again… Sooner than I think.3 months agoDelicious food. Arrived at 6.20pm. Parking is plentiful. Lotus leaf rice is nice, flooded with chi you char. Winter melon soup very nice and refreshing. Recommended to pre book a table and food in advance to avoid disappointment. They cook dishes one by one per table so…..be patient to wait awhile.4 months agoGood foods. Like the dishes taste as not like those strong taste. All ordered foods doesn’t disappoint. Old school restaurant way with old school dishes. Come again to try their signature dishes that require pre-order.a month agoSimply good , but do take note most notable dishes requires early booking. Without booking they do able to serve some dishes still taste gooda month agoAn enduring Cantonese restaurant, standing the test of time for over a century, is nestled near Kuala Lumpur, faithfully serving traditional dishes.

A very authentic Chinese restaurant ?? all dishes are cooked by old nanny & uncle in the kitchen ? here I can taste my childhood food & reminds me my old grandma home cooked food, which I will never have the chance to taste it anymore ?
Must try their fried toufu fish, sweet sour pork, slow cook stew soup and fried wonton ???? oh yeah~ not to mention their white rice is steam white rice ?
Used to order their sweet sour prawn but seems like it became unavailable anymore ?
Despite the long waiting time to me is totally worth it! As this kind of authentic taste (古早味) will disappear sooner or later ?
Paid RM92 for all this dishes.
If you’ve not tried the best Home Cooked food. You must come to Peng Nam restaurant that had been around for a long long time.
Just by looking at the Steamed Individual aluminium bowl of rice. will eventually tell you that they could have come from TIN MINING & LOGGING camps a long time ago.
All the dishes are superb quality that makes tastebuds real happy ?
Try to tolerate the slow speed during peak hours. And funny behaviour of them pulling a rope across the entry to bar customers from coming in once the Chef cannot handle or near closing time. However just ask the young Lady if they can accommodate further, while you’re behind the ropes ???
You’ll be surprised She’s quite accommodating ❤️
Food wise AAA for me and I’ve been visiting this join for passed 25 years.
Food is nice.. Home cook… Price is a bit high
Moon cake quite unique… Would not taste like usual moon cake… Not sweet
A formerly mining & plantation town, Rawang is predominantly Chinese and Indians especially in the downtown area. The evidence will be stretches of Chinese and Indian shops along Jalan Welman, one of the main street of Rawang old town area.
My sifu forwarded a Malay Mail article one day featuring Restoran Peng Nam, a restaurant helmed by the 3rd generation of cook. In his own words “I need to visit this restaurant. The last time I visited was 30+ years ago.” Knowing that he is quite picky when it comes to food, I quickly set a date to have lunch and drove him there on that day.
He added further that ever since the NSE aka North South Expressway opened, he had not stepped into Rawang already. Dropped him in front of the restaurant and parked my car further because traffic was bad and parking was a biatch in this part of town. The old shop still has the pillar inscribed with its traditional Chinese name in red paint although battered by the time.
◾Sweet & sour pork was their signature dish and I clearly knew why upon my first piece of meat. The highlight was the thick and slightly-darker-than-your-regular sweet & sour sauce. The taste was so profound with this old school feel to it. The downside was that the meat was slightly over deep-fried but we enjoyed the dish nonetheless.
◾Braised fish and beancurd in taucu sauce was another dish that made me think of home. The fish & beancurd were deep-fried and then braised with the darkish taucu (fermented soybeans) until soft and flavourful.
◾Fried wantan & pork slices soup – the soup absorbed the deep-fried wantan’s “flavour” and was rather unique to me, having this for the first time. I liked it.
◾stir fried sweet potato leaves – the usual greens la.. if not it’s not Chinese-y.
◾steamed rice – in the modern age of rice cooker, I was pleasantly surprised to see bowl of rice served in tin bowl.. bigger than our usual bowl. The only steamed rice I know nowadays are nasi kukus by our Malay friends.
Funny thing is that they close very early at 7pm everyday (closed on Monday) so the best bet will be eating lunch like yours truly, or come for early dinner. Parking is excruciatingly painful but the reward is the satisfying meal.
A long time Chinese restaurant which is now operated by the 3rd generation with about a 60 odd years history. The food good is good in particular their signature Tofu fish, Bitter gourd chicken, sweet and sour park and a few more other dishes served with their steamed rice. Have to go early for both lunch & dinner as patrons from all over would drive all the way to taste their food. A must if you are in or around Rawang, just located in the middle of old Rawang town.
