An accidental find… and a good one at that. We decided to dine here after walking past this quaint restaurant while exploring Penang on foot. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of food served here. The charcuterie platter was a delight. We ordered the mushroom sauce ravioli and it was bursting with flavour. The beef steak came well done even though I asked for medium but it was quickly rectified and we enjoyed it. Will definitely be back for more.

What a find!!! As far as Italian cuisine is concerned (and I’m really no expert), this place is on a par with the absolute best of them, regardless of location! From attention to detail, ambience, creative menu, service, staff, and especially the food and drinks. I really can’t praise this restaurant enough to give even a ballpark idea of how good this place is! Much more than highly recommended ????

We ordered the braised ribs, anchovy pizza n tiramisu. Putting in short, went with anticipation n returned with disappointment. This restaurant is much too overrated! Ribs served was lukewarm, taste is mediocre and presentation is poor, didnt look a bit appetising. Pizza came in lukewarm too and extremely chewy which supposedly to be crispy on the outside n soft on the inside. Tiramisu was the biggest joke! Served in a square plastic container, quantity doubled those served in other Italian restaurants that i had been. Way too soft and is the worst tiramisu i ever tasted! The dinner really spoilt my date night with my hubby??

Went to several Italian restaurants in Penang. This is one of the best in term of food and value. The pizza was perfect. One of the best pizza dough so far. Thin and crush. The pork rib was very good. Hand made pasta was excellent. Risotto was good. The dessert was excellent too and not too sweet. The service was very good and friendly. A definite repeater.

Excellent Italian food! Thank you Chef Luca & team for such wonderful dinner. I am a huge fan of pesto and most restaurant would over do it with cream. It was made to perfection over here. The salumi e formaggi platter was amazing.?? Pizza was slightly salty to my liking but it wasn’t a big deal. Do pair it with their chilli oil for a kick of heat. To seal the deal we had three guilty mouthwatering desserts of Panna cotta, almond cake w cherry compote & tiramisu. Delizioso! Service from heart by Shankar, Rahid & Arieph. They made our evening meaningful.? This trio will definitely make us return to Via Pre. Grazie ❤️

    1. The bread basket was below average for Italian restaurant. The pizza was ok, definitely not enough tomato sauce. The chicken was good. The best was the appetizer. Nothing special to entice me to come back.

    2. Went here for a birthday dinner and the food was amazing. Loving the Bufalina pizza and my favourite was their Carbonara. Tastes so classic and yet so creamy! They served breads and focaccia as appetizer and it tastes just ?? hits the spot right.

The host were kind enough to let us sit earlier because we arrived a little before the reservation time but both of them are so wonderful.

They brought their big chalk board which displays their daily menu around the restaurant to those that just came and ordered and I was surprised haha. Overall a good experience! Would come here again for another round of authentic Italian experience.

    3. I celebrated my wife’s birthday here. Overall, it is a great restaurant for special occasions. The food was nice, I like the fried calamari and the carbonara. The pizza dough was a bit hard in my opinion. We ordered a long island cocktail, I think it was good also. It has a strong taste of alcohol but was softened by the sweetness of cola. So it was quite easy to drink. ?
The environment and the service was good too. The staff were very polite.
The price for the food was slightly above average. But i think it does worth the price. So I would recommend this restaurant.

    4. Deserving of all the accolades bestowed on it over the years. The owner and his crew takes great care in ensuring that all guests are comfortable seated and well attended to. What I wanted to write about is their off the menu special of duck leg. It was as tender as can be and we polished it off in a few seconds. A must order!

    5. – Relatively expensive compared to other places for what you get, quality and quantity wise (receipt pictured)
      – We were lucky because we came right when they were open but you should reserve first
      – The alcoholic cocktails are not very strong but it’s fairly priced as well.

      – Ordered:
      1. Insalata Caprese (RM 42) [4/5] – Everything tastes refreshing and crispy. The mozzarella also doesn’t taste dry
      2. Linguine Seafood (RM 48) [4/5] – The portion is a little undersized but it was deliciosooooo
      3. Lamb Shoulder with Cous Cous (RM 59) [4/5] – Juicy, tender and delicious. Portion is also huge. Cous cous was also flavorful
      4. Il Bacaro Pizza (RM 54) [3/5] – For a namesake pizza, it feels a little underwhelmed. The dough and toppings is good but somehow the whole thing doesn’t sum up well enough for me to give it a 5 stars. The dough smells good and crispy but the pizza is a little bland. But your miles may vary.
      5. Injection Tiramisu (RM 27) [3/5] – it’s alright. It’s not bad but I have had a lot of better tiramisus

TL;DR: Alcohols are not that expensive but not that strong. Food quality and taste is definitely up there but the pizza may not be to my taste. Pasta and lamb are must-orders. Price is a little more expensive than regular restaurants. Will definitely come back to try other menu items.
