Downside- The way the staff talks is a bit arrogant, there is no place to put shoes outside. The place to put shoes inside is for the staff only.

Upside- The reading material is quite interesting for a mini library.

There is a small children’s library

There are board games, 3 tables with plug points and 4 pc

Clean up!

Charges:

RM1 per hour for pc RM1 for 1 plug point RM3 for discussion room (holds 6 people and has a white board) Free membership to borrow books. RM0.20 Printing RM0.10 photocopy

Improvements needed:

More books, many shelves with holes and a water dispenser would be nice.

Overall a calming place.

  1. The municipal library charges a minimum fee for library patrons. Membership is opened to all residents, particularly the Petaling Jaya community who is 4 years and above. Membership is based on individual registration. Validity of membership is on an annual basis. Annual membership is rm31, can borrow 20 books each time, for duration of 3 weeks. Late return is 20 cent daily.

Facilities for special group are taken into consideration. From the outside leading to the main entrance, access ramp is provided, meanwhile in the building itself, 2 lifts are available users’ use. The building’s environment is decorated with landscape and beautiful rock gardens. The interior decorations focuses on family comfort and individual recreational mind. Music corners on every level aims to provide alternatives to patrons who can enjoy reading whilst listening to music of their own choice.

In line with Selangor Government’s 10 pillars, information technology was made MPPJ’s main agenda. As a community library, the council believes in the sharing and development of information technology particularly with the Petaling Jaya community and Klang Valley residents generally.

Collections comprise monographs as well as other multimedia equipment facilities are provided for patrons. In this aspect, the council strives to meet the patron’s different needs to the maximum level.

  2. Not been to the pj library since a youth. It has relocated out of pj state into its own building next to the hockey complex opposite Assunta. 20 years gone, i’m bringing my children now. A wonderful experience. A major step-up from the library of past. Modern. Well stocked. Dedicated floors. Organised. Love the book self check out kiosk. Parking could be an issue if it were any more crowded. Definitely worth a visit if you’ve not visited, regardless of age.

  3. Imagine having to bring noise-cancellation earphones to a public library. Here, it’s the counter staff themselves who have no regard for a quiet environment, talking normally which echoes in the atrium right up to the first floor.

Really, times are so hard with so many people out of jobs. If these staff cannot respect the library rule, why are they hired for the job?

  4. Pros:
Air conditioning is very cold, I’d suggest to wear a jacket. I think the library adds new books to their large collection of books periodically. By paying a one-time fee of RM3, you can use the plugs for your laptops/phones/electronic devices for the whole day. Not so many visitors when I was there on Thursday. Love the reverse parking rule enforced by the library management, it should be implemented more widely in Malaysia.

    Cons:
Building is a bit rundown because water leaks from the ceiling at the top most floor if it rains, the carpets/floors have water stain marks. Some power sockets are not working and there are a limited number of plugs available only for certain tables. I think there were people talking coming from lobby time to time, but I have my noise cancelling earphones on focusing at my works.

  5. The children’s playroom Bayan Bestari is really nice and clean. A conducive environment for children to play and enjoy books at the same time.
