  It was a very nice weather during winter to strolling around Old Quarter area. There’s a beautiful church here, also many cafe’s, store to buy merchandise, spa and massage, and even Puppet show.

  Crazy….Chaotic….Overwhelming….All part of the fun

  However, a 3 night visit over a weekend, is more than enough, in our opinion,

  Whilst we can play the haggling game with the best of them, old town has some shady vendors and whilst we found a great jacket on an outside rack with a big sign saying 200K… we ended up having to walk away, after the price miraculously went up to 500K.

  Being Friday it was the start of the weekend and thus the start of the Hanoi Night Markets! Woo hoo! They more or less close off the street that runs from the lake to the Dong Xuan market and we took a long walk up one side and down the other. (I say more or less – but scooters still sneak through and terrorise shoppers.) generally enjoying the market vibe, we did all our shopping here, the shop owner and vendors were less push.

  Aalishan Indian Restaurant, just opposite the hotel (gets a special mention) it was dead set brilliant! So yummy – naan bread, mango lassi and some great curries. We were making hugely happy noises as we sat there and enjoyed ourselves immensely. so much so we visited two nights running.

  Other sights to see Train street (no train… more run on weekends apparently),

  The Dong Xuan Market (which was chaotic and really more of a wholesale place),.

  Paper Street (which was chock-a-block with Christmas decorations, Santa’s, reindeers and polar bears).

  We must say we loved the cooler temps able to enjoy old town without melting.

  We had a walkabout around the blocks n i was quite attracted to a number of things ie: where they have dinner by the street on small stools n tables, the night market, the traffic where everyone zig-zag their way thru, though di not get the opportunity to really sit down n enjoy the view @ life. Nevertheless it was quite an experience

  Hanoi’s train street is Vietnam’s dangerous as well as the most famous street. The people have made a business out of it in the forms of cafes, hotels, small outlets, etc., considering the popularity of the spot. You can visit the place freely, although it’s likely you will be straight away invited by a cafe owner, so they control the crowd. You need to buy some snacks or coffee if you want to sit near the street and enjoy the train passing nearby. They are so colorful, full of flowers, art, paintings, and all kinds of decorations on the street and cafes. You can sit down just a meter away from the tracks, or you can choose a spot upstairs where you get a higher view of the passing train. The train passes multiple times during the entire day. The train schedule often changes, so make sure to check it before visiting. You can easily spend half an hour to two hours there.

  Nice tourist attraction. A must place to visit. Before going there check the train timings. We went there by 6.30 pm and train come around 7 pm. That day train was delayed so we had to click photos and videos without train. There are many coffee shops and cafes around the tracks. Choose a suitable cafe and enjoy the train passing through. Official policemen don’t allow to enter the train street, touts are present everywhere, just tell them that you will order something from the cafes then they will allow u to sit in the cafe otherwise the ask for 100000 dong per person for entry unofficially. Don’t pay anything just order a beverage and sit in the cafe.

  Perfect for family. In order to go inside the train road you have to sit and order in the restaurant but don’t worry it’s very affordable. Please check train schedule if you want to see the train ask the local because the schedule sometimes changes. Better to go at night because the lights are so pretty! And train usually pass the road at night.

  Definitely check it out while in Hanoi!! Lots of fun here. Go to one of the local shops to get you in. There are police that block the entrance because its really busy… shop owner brought me through their shop for free to check it out. Cool experience drinking plum wine with the locals ❤️

  This place is amazing, but safety is a concern. Definitely not suitable for young children. However, being aware of the danger leads to a unique experience. You can sit within arms length of the passing train, having drinks and snacks. Check the times of the trains as there’s only a few daily. Between trains, it’s like a narrow street with small coffee shops and bars.
