a month agoI visited the Mansion yesterday and was fortunate to arrive just as an English language tour was starting. Our guide was so knowledgeable and passionate about the mansion, its history and the astonishing collection it holds, but was also funny and skilled as a storyteller. He easily held everyone’s attention!I’ve been traveling through SE Asia for almost three months now, and this is one of my top experiences. Where to start – the architecture, the remarkable restoration, the priceless furniture, jewelry, and overall collection within?? And all beautifully decorated for Christmas, what a treat!
Don’t think twice, go! You’ll be glad you did!
in the last weekReally interesting place and the man who gave us the guided tour was great. It was pretty busy with large groups of Chinese and people having photo shoots. WARNING- you cannot pay by card if you are paying for one person admission!4 weeks agoThis is one of the must visit places when in Penang. It’s a historical house that a rich Chinese businessman had built in the late 1800s early 1900s. The businessman was so rich that he also built a Chinese Temple next door, as well as a separate museum, with a dining room and kitchen buildings at the rear. A lovely mansion that is well furnished with beautiful furnishings, and easily takes you back to yesteryear. The Temple, museum and the kitchen are also worth visiting and are all included in the one entry price of 25RM as at Oct 2023. I visited during the off-peak season and it was somewhat busy, but in peak season it could possibly be crowded. The buildings are air-conditioned and this makes for an excellent atmosphere and encourages taking the time to view all that is on display. Allow between 1-3 hours to see everything depending on how much time you wish to spend taking in the great experience and looking at all the wonderful features, details and displays. The history of how he made his fortune, including tin mining, is also interesting and worth reading about.Excellent attraction. Enjoy.
3 months agoEntrance fee is rm25. Worth the trip and the price. You ALSO get free access to the Georgetown Mansion with the receipt you bought here since they just opened up and doing promotions to attract more tourist. The place is pretty big and has lots to see and read. Many good photoshoot spots. There are English and Chinese tour guides included that start every now and then or when the group is big enough.
a month agoFollow the guided tour and you can have a better understanding of Peranakan culture and their history. The displays are very antique and there are great collections for us to appreciate. After the tour, you can spend more time on your own to see every details of the collections. It is suitable for people who likes culture and history.

a month agoThis is a very nice area to walk around and explore. There are lots of little shops, historic sites and cafes. I would also recommend finding the “Little India” and walking through those alleys.3 months agoI wish I had more time to linger and enjoy and explore, but only had a short time (on a business trip…). Wonderful restaurants, places to shop, mosques, street art, performers, and just the feel of Malay culture, language and living.5 months agoIt’s like going treasure hunting to find these murals and sculpture, not thag obvious, need to search for them. It would have been great if there was a map of all of these murals and sculpture as a guide for us to find them11 months agoLots to do here. Nice restaurant and bars with live music. Some renovated some not. Colorful place with lot of murals. Bit too many tourists for my liking. But definitely worth visiting.a month agoOld but interesting to walk around and enjoy the sights and sounds?
