Singapore may be known for its urban landscape, but it also offers a variety of hiking trails that provide a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of city life and immerse oneself in nature. Here are five of the largest hiking trails in Singapore:
- Southern Ridges: Spanning over 10 kilometers, the Southern Ridges is a scenic trail that connects several parks and green spaces, including Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, and Kent Ridge Park. Highlights of the trail include views of the Singapore Strait and the surrounding islands, as well as various flora and fauna.
- MacRitchie Reservoir Park: This 12-hectare park is home to a 10-kilometer trail that circles the MacRitchie Reservoir. The trail offers a variety of terrains, from flat boardwalks to steep slopes, making it suitable for hikers of all fitness levels. Along the way, hikers can admire the reservoir’s tranquil waters, spot wildlife such as monkeys and monitor lizards, and visit the TreeTop Walk, a 250-meter-long suspension bridge that provides a unique perspective of the forest canopy.
- Bukit Timah Nature Reserve: The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is the oldest and largest nature reserve in Singapore, covering an area of 163 hectares. It is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including over 500 species of plants and 100 species of birds. The trail system within the reserve offers varying levels of difficulty, from easy walks to challenging hikes. The highest point in Singapore, Bukit Timah Hill, is located within the reserve and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area.
- Mandai Mangrove Trail: The Mandai Mangrove Trail is a 2.5-kilometer boardwalk that takes hikers through the mangrove swamps of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve. The trail offers a unique opportunity to learn about the importance of mangrove ecosystems and observe various marine life, including mudskippers, crabs, and birds. The trail is relatively easy to walk and suitable for families with young children.
- Singapore Quarry Trail: The Singapore Quarry Trail is a 6-kilometer loop trail located in the western part of Singapore. The trail takes hikers through a former quarry site, featuring rugged terrain, tranquil ponds, and lush greenery. Along the way, hikers can explore caves, learn about the history of the quarry, and enjoy scenic views of the surrounding area. The trail is considered moderately challenging due to its uneven surfaces and steep slopes.

2 months agoLove this place. Good to wander around but hiking a bit tough with some steps about 18 inches high. Maybe not good for kids. One fit young man put his baby on his back and he was puffing away. Lots of people out enjoying the excursion. Lots of trails to follow. Easy Medium Hard. Lots of interesting fact posters along the routesin the last weekReally amazing experience hiking through the Singaporean rainforest. Was hoping to see abit more wild life but all in all enjoyed it and would recommend. We saw a couple interesting spiders and one monkey. The hike is steep at points but worth it once you get to the summit.2 months agoIt’s a trail with steep inclines. I’d recommend traveling light and wearing comfortable walking shoes. The air around the summit is clear and might be great for meditation.5 months agoReally enjoyed hiking here. Please note that the path to the summit is very steep and challenging for people who are not fit. There’s also stairs at some segments of the path. I went on a weekend and it was packed with people running and hiking. I suggest to bring a lot of water as it’s humid and hot and you get exhausted. Saw some turtles and squirrels along the way.6 months agoBukit Timah Nature Reserve was a wonderful experience for me! I enjoyed the steep climb, which was a good challenge. I also found a smart way to avoid the steps (hehehe) by taking the steep road upward instead. I loved the scenic route that I took on the way down, which had amazing views. It was like being in a beautiful forest. The trail can be tough for some people, but it is rewarding and fun. I recommend arriving early, as the car park can get full, but you can also park at a nearby mall. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is a great place to visit if you love nature and adventure!

a month agoBukit Batok Nature Reserve Fire Station HikeI am a level hiker but this hill isn’t so bad – it’s about a 30 degree climb for 15 mins. Then at the top there are a bunch of stairs that ends at the fence top. On the right side goes to a beautiful quiet colonial housing estate that’s super quaint!!
It’s a short half to an hour walk! Not bad at all!
3 months agoA smaller park compared to the central catchment area. But if you cover the park plus the steps (currently under renovation), it would still be worth the effort. Nevertheless you get the see birds like the jungle fowl, laughing thrush and perhaps if you are lucky enough, you can see the colugo. Occasionally you can hear the woodpeckers at work and the drilling sound is simply amazing. Good place for a little walk and workout6 months agoEasy hike walk can complete within an hour but love to be out in the nature just to unwind. Do spot some cute animals along the way! If driving, there is a pretty spacious carpark outside the park.3 months agoGet down at Bukit gombak mrt station. Just Buy some foods and drinks. Walk towards the stadium and you could see steps heading further. Then you see this amazing place. Enjoy your moments there. On weekends sometimes people gathers but not that much crowded though. Don’t smoke or ruin the peace there please ?4 months agoNice park to trek! Many paths to walk. Seems popular among seniors too.Good for beginner trekkers.
