2 months agoOnly came here for drink and dessert but both were good and surprisingly, not too sweet. Very fair prices such a restaurant setting. They ran out of barley unfortunately but the alternatives were tasty as well, the red bean milk was really good same as the lychee kang. Upon return, the barley drunk was good with generous amounts of barley. Both cold drinks came without ice unexpectedly, maybe you need to request it?a week agoWhat a relief to have A AIR-CONDITIONING kopitiam after walking around in the Gaya streetGreat place to chill and experience Malaysian local breakfast
a month agoExcellent food at reasonable prices. Service is a bit slow and they don’t order foods for you. You need go order at the counter. The lychee desert is tasty.2 weeks agoThis cafe is located in front of Sabah Tourism Board (Old Post Office) and Kota Kinabalu 0km site. It has a good ambiance. As you enter the cafe, just find a seat, and the waiter will hand you the menu. You need to choose and write down the code of the food and drinks that you want to order in an order chit. Then bring it to the counter to pay. Wait for your order to be delivered to you. The food is delicious, and they serve generous portions.2 months agoOpen early in the morning with plenty of space. The foo yong hor fun is pretty tasty

2 months agoOnly drink rating for the soy milk, fairly sweet but still quite nice. The l aksa my friend had seemed rather soso. Very fair prices, order and pay at the register, pick up your food when your number is called up on the display.2 months agoPopular halal dim sum place that has a truly terrible system. Customers are to pick up their own food and then queue to pay. But the bottleneck at the cashier is such that you queue well over 20mins just to pay. There’s only one counter and customers queue, holding their food. Surely there’s a better system than this. Food is so so, not even worth the wait2 months agoToast bread with butter and kaya coconut jam just mediocre. Nothing special. Normal white bread and wholemeal bread akso not up to my liking. 2 starsBlack coffee was also not enough ummph. 1 star
Half boiled egg was presented well, but the taste lacked of depth. 2 stars
All things were self service
2 months agoFamous restaurant for breakfast and lunch. They served alot of dim sum and fried mee, kuih tiaw and many more. Usually here are packed with customers and need to wait for seat here. The food quality are so so and just normal, not that good nor not that bad. But the price are quite expensive. I like the mee goreng with fried chicken esp. The kopi also recommend to try………………………………………………………………2 months agoGood place to come and have your breakfast. Thoroughly enjoyed the toast, dimsum and atmosphere! Just take note for travellers driving to prepare your parking coupons as this is a hotspot due to its central location. Need to do abit of research ya.. yellow with redline is A1 costs abt 1 RM per 30mins parking as opposed to yellow line which is about 0.50rm per 30mims. The rates are different.

When we’re on extended trips we generally stay in budget accommodations that are good for sleeping but not always good for doing our digital work. So we always seek out local spots with good wifi so we can catch up on work in a fresh, comfortable environment. So good coffee/tea, and as a bonus good food, at a reasonable price (aka: table and wifi rental fee ?) is a must.
While in Kota Kinabalu, Borneo Nook Cafe ticked all the boxes.
In a city with not-so-great data coverage – at least with our Malaysian HotLink packages – the consistently strong wifi at Nook was a godsend. It’s also a comfortable space with good AC (not too cold) and friendly, attentive staff. And they are super chill about letting folks hang out with their laptops and work. A note about this: please be courteous about this. Buy food and drink, and if the place gets super busy and you’ve been there a while, be a good human and give up your table to others.
As for their coffee, it’s a more “western” style cafe serving things like latte, Americanos, and espresso, and at a slightly higher price than the local coffee shops. But the coffee is delicious, and the “higher” price is relative given the overall affordability of Malaysia.
And their food is outstanding. We had a bagel with duck breast that was off-the-charts delicious, a luscious grilled cheese on sourdough served with a side of tomato soup (just like grilled cheese was meant to be served), and a killer Rojak Buah served with prawn crackers. The most we spent at a sitting was RM 55 (CDN $16.65), and that was for two outstanding Dirty Chai Teas and the aforementioned grilled cheese sandwich and Rojak Buah salad. That’s a pretty damn good deal for a filling lunch and a couple of hours of reliable wifi in a comfy, chill space.
*Bonus points: Nook is steps away from a clean, modern laundromat so you can catch up on laundry while you chill with delicious drinks and good food.
I recently visited Nook Cafe based on the positive reviews I’d heard, and I must say, the food lived up to the hype. The cafe has a pleasant atmosphere that adds to the overall dining experience. The menu offers a variety of dishes, and I found the options to be quite appealing. The staff was friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall service. While it may not be an extravagant experience, Nook Cafe is definitely a solid choice for those looking for good food in a cozy environment.
I would recommend:
1. Sourdough toast and scrambled eggs. Simple and they totally nailed it! It’s a thick slice of really good sourdough topped with a beautiful bed of scrambled eggs.
2. Hot latte was great too, however for coffee enthusiasts, it might just be “meh” but hey, there’s no doubt it’s GOOD coffee.
Service was great.
Went at 8.50am on a Thursday so there isn’t much human traffic.
It’s been awhile since I last visited this cafe and wow it has become better. The Christmas specials were awesome and it was the first time ever that I tried an eggnog – one of my bucket list ? what can I say, all of the food we ordered tasted great, prices I suppose are reasonable in this day and age ? but worth the quality, and drinks were awesome. I’d recommend a thousand times over! My kids agree! But parking is still an issue though so come early!
Ambient is nice, relaxing with smiles by the staffs. Matcha latte came with nice snail design, which was surprisingly nice & shocking at the same time. Fruity churos was nice & delicious. Although the price was at the upside, but it’s worth it
