The 7 Biggest Budget-Friendly Restaurant in Mandalay

Localbiz Cover

Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, is a Southeast Asian country with a rich cultural heritage and a diverse culinary landscape. While fine dining experiences can be found throughout the country, there are also numerous budget-friendly restaurants that offer delicious and authentic local dishes at affordable prices. Here are five of the largest budget-friendly restaurants in Myanmar:

  • Shan Ma Ma (Yangon): This popular restaurant is known for its Shan-style cuisine, which is a delicious blend of Burmese, Chinese, and Thai flavors. The menu features a wide variety of dishes, including curries, noodles, and salads, all at very reasonable prices. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, making it a great place to enjoy a meal with friends or family.
  • 999 Shan Noodle Shop (Mandalay): This no-frills restaurant is a local favorite for its Shan noodles. The noodles are made fresh daily and served in a variety of soups and sauces. The prices are incredibly low, making it the perfect place for a quick and affordable meal. The restaurant is always busy, so be prepared to wait for a table.
  • Aye Myittar Mohinga House (Bagan): This simple restaurant specializes in mohinga, a traditional Burmese fish soup noodle dish. The mohinga here is made with a rich and flavorful broth, filled with rice noodles, fish, and vegetables. It comes with a variety of toppings, such as hard-boiled eggs, fried onions, and crispy shallots. The restaurant is very popular with locals and tourists alike, so it’s best to arrive early to avoid the crowds.
  • Shwe Nan Taw (Inle Lake): This restaurant is located on Inle Lake, a beautiful natural lake in Shan State. The restaurant serves a variety of traditional Burmese dishes, as well as Shan specialties. The prices are reasonable and the views of the lake are stunning. Be sure to try the Shan-style fried rice, which is made with a variety of vegetables and meats.
  • The Strand Restaurant (Yangon): While not as budget-friendly as the other restaurants on this list, The Strand Restaurant is worth mentioning for its historical significance and beautiful colonial-era architecture. The restaurant serves a variety of Western and Burmese dishes, all prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The prices are higher than at other restaurants, but the experience is worth it for a special occasion.

Wide range of food with very good prices! This small restaurant which has a long history as well is one of the best places to eat in Madalay. Many dishes and relatively cheap. For a whole fried/steamed fish you’ll pay 4.5k or a noodle 2k. They don’t provide free rice or many side dishes which is ok! We enjoyed the tasty food here

Everything was great from start to finish. We were seated right away and amazed at all the choices! The menu was very detailed, with pictures and included English. I’m so glad I got the sticky rice noodle, it’s so chewy just how I like it. They also have chicken wings served in three different ways which I also recommend. The decor was interesting to look at while we waited for our order to arrive.

-Shortly,if you can find Pan cherry, you should definitely visit Pan Cherry!!!!!!

    1. Food They are all good. You won’t regret it. I would recommend Dry Cherry’s Shan noodle. I think it is the best shan noodle I’ve ever eaten in Myanmar!

    2. Wifi It is quite difficult to find a restaurant that has wifi. But Pan cherry has one! Yay

    3. Air conditioning system The first floor is just like an ordinary restaurant. However the second floor has an air-conditioning system that cools you down. Also they have toilet?

    4. This restaurant is not just for tourists. You can easily find the local people. And you can enjoy authentic local food.

    5. Vegetarian food They have vegetarian menu!! Also they have tofu option, so you’d better ask them.

    6. Delivery service They do have delivery service!!!!!! I used only one time!

I want to bring Pan Cherry to my country.8

We found this place on Google maps and checked out their reviews. They looked ok and so we went exploring to find them. Didn’t look like much from the outside but inside was a cute little eating area. Friendly staff, spoke some English, had English menus with lots of choice and trip advisor posters showing their excellence rating. Delicious food. We had the noodle bowl, hand cut french fries and a Shan spicy chicken dish with rice – 7000ks. Highly recommend.

    Very delicious

Nice, cosy little soup- and noudle-Restaurant in family tradition.

Food ist fresh cooked and the restaurant in general is very clean and enjoyable. Taste was great, not to weak or to spicy.

Drinks were fresh prepared, without sugar if you want. Coffee was also delicious (not bitter).

    — We enjoyed food and recommend this place! —

This is a good spot. I would say it is comparable to escape Cafe. They have a European Menu and a “traditional menu”. It is possible to find meals for under 10,000mmk. The drink menu is very reasonably priced. The dinning area is huge and they can handle large groups.

Royal Mandalay Café & Restaurant is one of the nice Cafes and Restaurants in Mandalay. It is big enough to hold crowds and large groups of people. They also have different styles of tables, sofa, benches and settees.

Staffs are helpful and very supportive. The foods are also delicious. It is second time for me. As a traveller and also a remote working person, it is very convenient for me to use the electrical outlets provided by the Cafe.

Royal Mandalay Coffee is their own signature coffee with Coffee, Milk and Condensed Milk. But we can order with or without Condensed Milk as well.

Photos include 1) Royal Mandalay Coffee 2) Watermelon slices (Free Gift) 3) How visitors can use their laptop as example 4) Inner view of the Café.

Top Budget-Friendly Restaurant Alternatives in Mandalay

Yangon (Burmese: ရန်ကုန်; pronounced [jàɰ̃.ɡòʊɰ̃]), formerly romanized as Rangoon, is the capital of the Yangon Region and the largest city of Myanmar (also known as Burma). Yangon served as the Capitals of Myanmar until 2006, when the military government relocated the administrative functions to the purpose-built capital city of Naypyidaw in north central Myanmar. With over five million people, Yangon is Myanmar's most populous city and its most important commercial centre.
Yangon boasts the largest number of colonial-era buildings in Southeast Asia, and has a unique colonial-era urban core that is remarkably intact. The colonial-era commercial core is centered around the Sule Pagoda, which is reputed to be over 2,000 years old. The city is also home to the gilded Shwedagon Pagoda – Myanmar's most sacred and famous Buddhist pagoda.
Yangon suffers from deeply inadequate infrastructure, especially compared to other major cities in Southeast Asia, such as Jakarta, Bangkok or Hanoi. Though many historic residential and commercial buildings have been renovated throughout central Yangon, most satellite towns that ring the city continue to be profoundly impoverished and lack basic infrastructure.
