I’ve been traveling through SE Asia for almost three months now, and this is one of my top experiences. Where to start – the architecture, the remarkable restoration, the priceless furniture, jewelry, and overall collection within?? And all beautifully decorated for Christmas, what a treat!
Don’t think twice, go! You’ll be glad you did!

Really interesting place and the man who gave us the guided tour was great. It was pretty busy with large groups of Chinese and people having photo shoots.
WARNING- you cannot pay by card if you are paying for one person admission!

This is one of the must visit places when in Penang.
It’s a historical house that a rich Chinese businessman had built in the late 1800s early 1900s.
The businessman was so rich that he also built a Chinese Temple next door, as well as a separate museum, with a dining room and kitchen buildings at the rear.
A lovely mansion that is well furnished with beautiful furnishings, and easily takes you back to yesteryear.
The Temple, museum and the kitchen are also worth visiting and are all included in the one entry price of 25RM as at Oct 2023.
I visited during the off-peak season and it was somewhat busy, but in peak season it could possibly be crowded.
The buildings are air-conditioned and this makes for an excellent atmosphere and encourages taking the time to view all that is on display. Allow between 1-3 hours to see everything depending on how much time you wish to spend taking in the great experience and looking at all the wonderful features, details and displays.
The history of how he made his fortune, including tin mining, is also interesting and worth reading about.
