Singapore is a renowned melting pot of diverse cultures, and its local street food scene reflects this vibrant heritage. From fragrant satay skewers to hearty noodle dishes, the culinary offerings in Singapore are nothing short of spectacular. Here are five of the most beloved local street food favorites:

  • Satay: Indulge in tender, smoky chunks of grilled meat, typically chicken, beef, or mutton, served with a rich peanut sauce. Satay is a quintessential Singaporean delicacy that delights locals and tourists alike.

  • Laksa: Relish a hearty bowl of laksa, a spicy noodle soup infused with aromatic coconut milk broth. This Peranakan dish is packed with flavors and textures, featuring thick vermicelli noodles, juicy prawns, and a medley of spices.

  • Hainanese Chicken Rice: Succulent steamed or roasted chicken served with fragrant fluffy rice and a trio of dipping sauces. The tender chicken and flavorful rice, complemented by the ginger, chili, and dark soy sauces, make this dish a comforting and popular choice.

  • Hokkien Mee: Also known as prawn noodles, Hokkien Mee is a flavorful stir-fried noodle dish that combines yellow noodles, rice vermicelli, shrimp, and a savory sauce. The dish is often garnished with crispy pork rinds, kang kong (water spinach), and a dollop of sambal chili sauce.

  • Char Kway Teow: Savory and slightly charred flat rice noodles stir-fried with a medley of ingredients, including prawns, cockles, Chinese sausage, beansprouts, and eggs. Char Kway Teow satisfies with its aromatic, smoky flavor and is a staple in Singapore’s hawker centers.

Latiffa Huri’s Famous Nasi Lemak stall is a true culinary treasure. Their fragrant coconut rice, crispy chicken, and aromatic sambal create a flavor explosion that’s simply extraordinary. This authentic Malay delight is a must-try, and the friendly service adds to the experience. A taste of heaven in every bite!

I went ahead to add the Sambal Cuttle Fish and Prawns. Love it!

Came on a Fri morning around 8am, queue was already pretty long. There’re two queues, the one on the left for noodles and the one on the right for Nasi Lemak. Queued for close to 20min before ordering.

Got the Nasi Lemak Ayam with Bergedil x2 ($11). They take a while to fry the fried chicken but it’s worth the wait! Also, portion is really huge, 2 people can probably share this.

Rice – very fragrant and soft, but coconut taste is strong.

    Chilli – quite spicy, sweet.

Fried chicken – so crispy and flavourful! My favourite hands down, but need to wait for quite a while before it’s ready.
